so pretty well i'm in canada having a good time chillaxin'. Today i did close to nothing; slept for a while, ate food (my grandmother is an amazing cook), threw little kids (cousins) into my uncle's pool, took a drive to hit up some wifi and errands, and watched a movie. rough...i know, tell me about it. my cousin's wedding is on saturday, and then next weekend we are going camping/mountain hiking which should be fun.

today i was working on some photos from senior high camp and i'm going to load them up to this zooomr account. (zooomr is amazing; if you don't have one go get one now). my personal one is here, where i have some photography stuff. there's a couple new ones there that i took yesterday.

anyways i'm enjoying my vacation and enjoying time where i don't have to be doing anything. :-D

wow it's been like forever since i've posted...a lot has happened since then and i will hopefully keep this up better from now on lol

you know it's pretty bad when people who are commenting on your blog feel the need to put the date because otherwise you wouldn't know when it was posted...lol

well i guess it goes all the way back to tnt in october @ houghton college. i thought i did alright, got some $$ to go to bbc with...so i was liking that ummm....booster was next i think...so yeah me, stefan, rachel and samara went to booster and chilled @ my grandparents house...that was pretty fun; i would have to say that i liked saturday morning's worship the best...it just flowed. i mean it was all really good...that just stood out in my mind. the three season ant concert was rowdy to put it mildly; ok i was in the front row and kids were being thrown on top of me. like 9 of them. and then some dude is like hey you! i'm like what? and he's like i'll throw you on top. ok if you don't know me: i am 6'3". i weigh 230lbs. there was no way i was going to try and crowd surf all the kids who were like 12...not happening. anyways kids were being flung everywheres...that was fun; but they did some awesome worship songs in their set too...it was nice. i met this girl named emma from Grand Manan who was up front having random people land her as well.

matt leroy did a great job speaking, the skits were pretty funny and i really like the hike up to the bluffs. it's really refreshing, that kind of landscape...not canned or seen on a postcard, but actually being there. i think that's about it for booster...really long drive from cuse to sussex though...

my computer died recently...i've been trying to bring it back but having some difficulty. doing some cat5 cable running...networking computers...installing ethernet jacks, you know...fun stuff that geeks loooove to do.

i know i'm all over the place tonight but stuff just keeps hiting me that i want to write about...seeing that it's been soo long...lately i'm been listening to the song "Salvation Is Here" by Hillsong United...it's a great song...powerful stuff.

basketball has started up and so i'm @ practice usually mon-wed-thurs and then games on sat. if you live in central new york i might have a game near you..you never know. o yes and i've been seeing a chiropractor lately because i've had some back pain. my chiropractor is a pretty cool guy...he's been crackin' my back frequently to realign it...i should be pretty good in a month or so....

so yeah that's about all that's been going on for me...till next time......

Who is Jesus of Nazareth to you? Your life on this earth and for all of eternity is affected by your answer to this question.

All other religions [such as Hinduism, Buddhism. Confucianism, Shintoism, and Islam] were founded by human beings and are based on man-made philosophies, rules and norms for behavior. Take the founders of these religions out of both their disciplines and practices of worship and little would change.

But take Jesus Christ out of Christianity, and there would be nothing left. Biblical Christianity is not just a philosophy of life, nor an ethical standard, nor obedience to religious ritual. True Christianity is based on a vital, personal relationship with a Risen Founder who is our living Savior and Lord.

well sorry for not posting...i've been wicked busy lately trying to create a new site design, do school, setup some locally hosted servers and stuff, do school, networking printers and other random network stuff, do school, figure out what linux iso is best for a webserver, do school, choose stuff and practice for TNT, bball practice is starting this week....o did i mention that i need to do school?

To think about…

Why Boomers resist the “Emergent fad.”

Emergents trying to convince Boomers that there is a new generation with new needs that requires new approached often meet a brick wall from Boomers. Boomers say, “I’m tired of chasing fads in ministry.” Why is it that boomers (my own generation) are so resistant to the emergent generation’s claims that the church must change or die?

Frankly boomers are weary of change. My generation pioneered change! We are the ones who overthrew hymns for choruses, screens for hymnals, paper agendas for verbal ones. It is my generation who invented the idea of a “generation” that must be reached by lecturing the oldsters about boomer needs and boomer values and “what boomers want.” We used “boomers” and “outreach” to install our own preferences in both worship and church management in our own revolution of the 80’s and 90’s. We coerced the oldsters to give up their worship styles, management approaches and even their architecture in order that we can “reach the coming generation [boomers, us!] with the gospel.

Eventually we won—we enshrined our own preferences as standard operating procedure in the church—“tradition.” In the process we became our parents—we got protective of our own traditions. Thus, my generation is tired of chasing new generations and “new fads.” We have either forgotten our own speeches or we now doubt that our revolution accomplished much outreach after all (other than reshuffling the Christian population among churches). Revolutionaries always become conservatives once they succeed. We don’t have the energy left to learn what postmoderns are like and to be quite honest many in my generation do not even care. We cared little for the needs and preferences of the oldsters when we revolted to change the church in the 1980’s and 1990’s—and now we care little about the needs of the youngsters now that we are firmly in control of everything. We care deeply about things—but mostly we care about our own generation—that may be our besetting generational sin. After having won the war we are tired of battle. We now longer have an appetite for revolutions and are now comfortable with things the way they are. Of course “the way things are” is they are like we wanted them, or mostly so. We now forget all those 10 point lists of “what Boomers are want and how the church can change to reach them.” Or if we remember them we now scoff at them and no longer think they are totally accurate. So when someone younger comes up with a new list claiming their generation is different than ours we are simply too weary to even inquire into the matter so we blow them off.

And to be quite honest with you, as we boomers have aged we are less sure that we actually did the right thing in the violent overthrow of our parents’ traditions. We are admitting to each other that we did some pretty manipulative things to overthrow the oldsters and now we’re not totally sure we made a gain for the kingdom. Have we really reached the tons of unbelievers we claimed our musical styles would bring in? Is the quality of discipleship greater now than when we took over? We are doubting this now that we are approaching 60 as a generation. All this makes us suspicious of the next generation’s agenda and their certainty that the “church has to change or die.” We don’t dismiss postmodern/emergent thing because my generation is evil or selfish—but because most boomers are just tired of revolutions or we are beginning to doubt the gains of our own revolution, thus the claims of the next one. When we were trying to convince the oldsters they had to "change or die" we got miffed when they retorted, "people don’t change and the gospel doesn't change." We hated hearing, "I don't buy it that the coming generation needs things packaged differently--why copy the world?" Now we find ourselves saying similar things.

Emergents, we need you to be patient with boomers-turned-oldsters..." the definition of a conservative is ‘former revolutionary.’" And we boomers need to remember ourselves in the 1980's when we were arguing, "boomers like bright sanctuaries and fast upbeat music” when we hear the next generation say “Emergents like dark sanctuaries and slow reflective music.” We boomers may not like what the Emergents plan to do with it, but to who else can we pass on the church? We’re stuck with the emergent generation. They will inherit the earth. Perhaps we boomers need to confess more publicly some of the errors in approach and effect of our own revolution. Who knows, that may help the Emergents avoid some our mistakes? That's my bet (er, ah, I mean "hope.")

Hello all

I’m in Canada right now, @ Grammy’s house. One of the things that I love the most about NB is the smell. Maybe it’s just the Fredericton area…maybe just Marysville/Penniac area. But there is a distinct sweet smell in the air…it brings to mind what the smell of lothlorien should be. This brings back all the memories that I have here….I remember at my other grandmother’s old house playing in the woods and on the old tire swing…a flood of memories…

Looonng ride in the van…we got here about 2 AM eastern time….3 atlantic….stopped at Governors’ lol if you’ve been there before you’ll know what it is lol on the way here I was listening to a load of music…a lot of blindside…here’s the lyrics to one of their songs :

At camp last week we had a great week with pastor Ken Klein and Kurios. It was about True Worshippers of God.

The main points were that the true worshipper of God is:
1. Filled with His love
2. Fascinated with the Father’s way
3. Firm in His promises
4. Faithful in the desert
5. Focused on Eternity

At the end of the week pastor ken gave us all carabineers and said (paraphrase) “Choose what you want to do with your life…you can go up to the cross and give it to Jesus or you can keep it to yourself. It’s your choice.” I’ll get the pics up from sr high and whatever was taken @ jr high when I get back. I’m out for now.....

I was doing my devos today and I found this devotional that I haven't looked @ in a while in my Bible...I opened it up and read this:

"Jesus was at Bethany, a guest of Simon the Leper. While he was eating dinner, a woman came up carrying a bottle of very expensive perfume. Opening the bottle, she poured it on his head. Some of the guests became furious among themselves. "That's criminal! A sheer waste! This perfume could have been sold for well over a year's wages and handed out to the poor." They swelled up in anger, nearly bursting with indignation over her. But Jesus said, "Let her alone. Why are you giving her a hard time? She has just done something wonderfully significant for me. You will have the poor with you every day for the rest of your lives. Whenever you feel like it, you can do something ofr them. Not so with me. She did what she could when she could--she pre-anointed my body for burial. And you can be sure that wherever in the whole world the Message is preached, what she just did is going to be talked about admiringly." (Mark 14:3-9 - The Message)

Wasting It On Jesus
Here is an account of a woman who was passionate about showing her love for Jesus. She took a jar of perfume worth a years pay, broke off the top of the bottle and poured it out on Jesus. This was really a sign of the kind of love she had for Jesus. There was nothing that she wouldn't do or sacrifice for Him.

She took probably the most imporatant and costly thing she had and "wasted" it on Him. That's what everybody else in the room thought. They were angry with her. They felt like she had done a very stupid thing and they spoke harshly to her. Jesus understood what she was doing. He silenced them all and he honoured her right there in front of everyone.

There are a few important lessons that we can receive from this scene. The first lesson is that when you go all out in love for Jesus, some people just won't understand. If you love Jesus Christ with all of your heart, you will take your most precious treasures, your life, your career dreams, and your relationships and "waste" them on Jesus. You will make sacrifices that people won't understand unless they share your deep love for Him. You need to expect that, and don't be surprised when people respond in negative ways to your passionate respnse to His call.

The second lesson is that Jesus looks at your heart of devotion for Him. Many times we get all wrapped up in how well we can serve Jesus or how good of a Christian we can be. Jesus looks at our hearts most of all. He saw right throught the extravagant, wasteful use of this priceless perfume and saw this woman's heart. When he looked at her heart, he said, "She has done something wonderfully significant for me." You can be sure that He knows your heart and He supports your desire to do His will no matter what it might cost you. Don't get discouraged by trying to figure out how everything is going to work out in your life if you serve Jesus with all of your heart. Nothing you pour out as a love gift on Jesus will be wasted.

He is so glad that you have crossed the line and that you are willing to "waste" your greatest treasures on Him and His mission in the world. He will never leave you of forsake you!"

Emotion = God's Presence?

I'm curious as to what people think about emotion tying into God's presence. Do you ever feel like emotion is attached to God's presence? As if when you don't feel emotion...God's presence isn't there? I've been pondering this the past couple weeks and was just curious to see what other people think about it. If you are wondering what I am refering to as "emotion," I mean like the one song that you can always worship to, the one feeling you get when you are at a Christian summer camp...I guess it would be called a spiritual high. So if you have an opinon or thought leave a comment...
